w elcome to the summer issue of Ground Breaking News. In the construction and excavating industry the summer months tend to be the busiest time of the year, and a time when more accidents happen. Accidents most often occur when excavation equipment operators are unaware of the presence of underground lines. Notifying BC ONE CALL before digging helps ensure that any lines at the dig site are located before the work begins.

Reducing accidents and protecting worker safety are top priorities at BC ONE CALL, and at the Board level we believe recruiting new members is one of the best ways to achieve those goals. As Co-Chairs of BC ONE CALL'S Board and as the representatives of two of the founding member companies, we see the value of our companies' active involvement in BC ONE CALL: reduced damages to our underground facilities. In fact, at Centra Gas damage reports in 1997 were below 1993 levels although the customer base has doubled.

If you or anyone you know is interested in membership, please contact our Call Centre at 604-257-1900 and ask to speak to Renee Magnusson or Scott Henley or call Gord Mason, Superintendent of Customer Service at Centra Gas (250-338-9997). Gord chairs our Operations Committee.
